The new c-buz has launched! i ended up staying up til past 4, to finish it, but it's up. i'm still finding a few bugs in ie and firefox, but hopefully i should fix those today or tomorrow. i'm just glad it's up.

check it out here: c-buz.com

The next big thing to do is promoting it. my goal is to run ads in both high school newspapers and also on facebook.  i also need to set up the ad network with indieclick.com.

all exciting things.

i recently got a new dj toy from target, the ion discover dj turntable set, which comes with cross, a mixing software. i must say, i am pretty impressed that a $120 piece of hardware from target is so capable. it's really a huge step up from the vinyl turntables i have been using. i found out though that i needed to purchase a usb external audio interface, which would allow the two tables to output to different sources. also i had to have it run into my crossfader. so basically, if i'm doing any live gigs, i have the usb output to two channels, one running into input 1 on the cross fader, and the other into input 2. from there, i have a headphone output for the cue - with its own crossfade - and another output going to the mains. but if i want to record my mix, i will have to have the main line out going back into the input for my mac and have it record in a separate program.

so far, i've been really happy with the progress i've made.  the plan is to be able to dj professionally at clubs in indy or bloomington by the end of the year, or maybe even by summer.

what's helped is that my brother got me dj hero for christmas, which really helps with reaction speed and seeing what is possible with mixing.

today, i went out to do my very first tag. a friend said a church youth group wanted wall graffiti for their youth group's hang out, called the garage. at first i was planning on doing it with just black, but since the walls were dark orange, i later realized that wouldn't stand out very much.  we they brought in some more colors like green, purple, yellow, and white, which i think ended up having a much better effect.  to make the tag less clear looking, i ended up splattering the paint everywhere, which i think gave it a much livelier and grungy feel.  overall, i was pretty happy with it, being my first wall tag.  however, next time, i would like to do spray paint on a train.  maybe when the weather gets a little better.

here's the tag.

so i had the chance to do a photoshoot with a very cool group of people and a very cool band - quick said the bird - made up of nick morrow (guitar / vocals), annie van (chello, bv), kyle battin (guitar / bv / auxiliary percussion) , rachel bell (violen, bv), and steven riche (keys, auxiliary percussion, bv). i had in my head to get some really cool, white, snowy, wintershots with defused lighting, and that's exactly what i got.  the band also helped me to purchase a nice remote trigger and umbrella defuser for my flash, which i think really bumped up the quality quite a bit.  i ended up shooting around 400 shots at 6 different locations, but here are a few of my personal favorites.  they've also been added to my photo section  enjoy!

i've been working pretty hard on the new c-buz and hope to have it up by the end of the month.  plus, i will be posting a feature on adam cooley and impure jazz for the new launch.

so it's been forever since i've updated this site. i decided to upload a whole bunch of stuff at once and get all caught up. some big events that have happened:

c-buz has been running for EIGHT months now and has had about 12,000 hits, which is not too great, but you gotta start somewhere. wow, time flies! it's had a pretty good run so far, but i think it's time for a redesign. that will be arriving in the next month or so. it's going to be big.

i had an art show in indianapolis at the oranje art festival. it was pretty awesome. i even got feature in nuvo and the republic. there, i had clayton woodley (aka panda) do some video work in exchange for building him a new website, which just went live this week.

i co-produced an animated music video for yo gabba gabba featuring the music of the decemberists. not sure when that should air. i'll will have to check in. that was a really fun and cool project to work with andy j miller on.

brütal legend came out in october, so i may now officially get my hands on the work i did for that game during my internship in 2006. and yes, my name is in the credits under "animation interns". two of the main things i contributed were the modeling and riggin of 'mangus', the roadie, and the modeling of the 'grave digger'. i also modeled some various weapons and props. as well as some uv unwrapping. the republic decided to do a front page article on me. sweet.

i'll just list all the new items below:

web
some new sites from work and on the side. photo
here are some photos i took at the skate park and a photo of photographer, whitney ulm, which was used for her 3-page article in she magazine. illustration (2d)
these are some pieces i exhibited at indy orange 2009. the zombie one was for a halloween bike ride. i didn't get to go because i had h1n1. bla. so, i guess i felt like a zombie, which half-way counts. illustration (3d)
brütal legend final came out, which i did some modeling work on. below are some screen grabs of the models i worked on. logo (new category)
i decided to split up the graphic section into "graphic" and "logo".

well, it's been a while since i've updated you guys. i just bought my ticket to nirobi, kenya through london to help shoot a video for a medical missions group called bethany kids! i am pretty pumped. i will be working with a very talented producer from d.c. and will also be helping to train a kenyan on video production.

currently at work, i've been working on four different sites, two client and two house. the client sites should be up pretty soon. they are in their final stages. one is for a landscaping company called the yard barbour's and the other is for a japanese mini truck import retailer called national mini truck imports. as for the house, one is screaming eagle media, our new web division, and the other is a new business directory.

outside of work, my goal is to complete enough original works of art to present at this year's oranje art festival in downtown indy. last year i went and was really inspired by the work i saw and the artists i met. i am working with a few people on a few projects and by myself for others. one is a music video for dj latte's song "left and right", which is probably my favorite song of his. we brainstormed together for a couple other songs as well. "left and right" should be the most straight forward though.

projects on the back burner include some super-simplified charcoal drawings that i will convert to vector later. another is a bike magazine i hope to have published by spring or summer. the other is a comic project i worked with steve riche on last summer. it's such a neat script, i really hope to get back into it.

in terms of non-artistic news, i went to alaska for christmas to visit my parents, and when i got back, threw a wild new year's eve party at my apartment. my brother signed up to run the mini-marathon in indy, and i'm "considering" doing it. it's so far though! i can't really make it past 2.5 miles before i feel like i'm going to keel over.

a concept that has been reinforced for me these past few months: buying better equipment and software will not magically make you a better artist. buying training does not mean you will make use of it. i bought a 32" lcd screen tv/dvd player to aid in my creativity, but really it slowed me down, and after a while, i ended up just using it as a tv. i bought a dvd tutorial for blender (a free 3d program) and was disappointed when my macbook scratched a nice big circular groove in the disc and spit it back out. when i put it back in, a great deal of the video files were destroyed. the ones that remained were disappointing because they were all just time elapsed videos of the guy building and animating his scene without him slowly explaining each tool he was using. so i watched a process which i already know, without learning specifically how to do it in blender.

i've been finding a lot of excellent resources online though, which have helped me tramendously. nettuts.com vetortuts.com psdtuts.com bestwebgallery.com bluevertigo.com just to name a few. i could go on, but i think you guys have had enough. cya!

welcome to punchmybucket v4.0. i decided to take more of a minimalistic approach. i figure the point is to have a place to post my work and show people what i'm capable of. i've decided to show a wide range of my work with various logos and posters i've done, video production and animation, some random photography, web site design, and some 2d and 3d illustrations. let me know what you think!
